Due to a few unforeseen events/issues, we are behind finishing our book. We will still test on Wednesday 11/2. Study guides were sent home yesterday and are due Friday; however, we will not be beginning our essay unit until Monday 10/31.
Please remember tutoring begins this week!! Thursday tutoring is from 4-5PM, and Friday tutoring is from 330-430 PM. If you have not already signed up, please email me ASAP to be placed on the list. I encourage ALL students who have had any struggles with ELA to sign up.

This is Red Ribbon Week at Odyssey, and students are encouraged to dress each day according to the schedule. Wednesday is PJ day, Thursday is Camo day, and Friday is Halloween costume day.
We are finishing Peak this week, and a study guide will be going home on Wednesday 10/26. It will be due on Friday. There will be NO LATE GRADE OFFERED for this, because we will go over it in class on Friday. The test will be on Wednesday, November 2. (On my lesson plan, I have us finishing the book on Tuesday, but we may actually be reading through Wednesday depending on progress.) Students will begin the process of writing an informative essay. This will mostly be completed in class; however, some work will need to be completed at home. I will be taking it slow through this first essay, so that students will know exactly what to expect. Don't forget that tutoring begins this week! If you have not enrolled your student, I still have spots available on Friday from 3:30 - 4:30 for ELA. We have so much going on in 7th Grade!
This week, we will continue our parts of speech review with verbs, so look for those worksheets to be coming home for homework. In addition, we are still reading Peak, and hope to be finishing that up by the end of next week. The students have really enjoyed this book, and we have learned a LOT about the dangers and excitement of climbing Mt. Everest. I plan for our final test over the novel to be on Wednesday, November 2nd. It will cover vocabulary, sequence of events, figurative language, characters, conflicts, and themes from the novel. Also, in addition to their test, we will also have a formal informative essay that will be assigned the week of October 23rd and due on Friday, November 5th. Details on that will be posted here and on the Google Classroom in addition to materials that will be sent home. Don't forget Odyssey's Fall Festival is coming up on Saturday, October 22nd! If you did not receive the information that went home, please let your student's homeroom teacher know, so that the information can be given to you. 7th grade is busy this week reviewing and testing on parts of speech.
We have a test on Wednesday over Peak as well as nouns, pronouns, and adjectives. Please make sure to study the study guide!!! We are enjoying reading and will begin working on some serious writing skills very soon. I am excited to see the creativity and potential that can emerge from this group. Please encourage your students to work hard and embrace their talents! Don't forget that 9 week grade reports will be going home next week. Check Power School daily for updates. |
Mrs. Smith's 7th Grade ELALanguage Arts is, along with mathematics, one of the primary subjects in our education. Without language arts, we would lack the skills to communicate adequately or to analyze and process information that is provided. In 7th grade, we will work on building those skills through grammar, writing, and reading. Archives
